Frequently Asked Questions

About Therapy?

A therapy hour is 50 minutes. It is important you try to be on time so as to ensure you get the full 50 minutes as we are unable to extend the session beyond your 50 minutes.

How long is a session?

A gentle space to get to know each other and explore what brings you here. You're free to share as much or as little as feels right. There's no pressure, it's about finding out whether working together feels like a good fit for you.

What can I expect in our first session?

The therapeutic process is unique to each individual, and therefore it's difficult to predict. I truly believe that it is when you feel seen, supported and safe in the therapeutic relationship that change occurs. I therefore offer open-ended, longer-term therapy, however, we can explore 6 to 12 session blocks for clients who would prefer this.

How long does the process usually take?

Do I have to come weekly?

I work on a weekly one-to-one session set-up. Weekly sessions are recommended to support you in feeling connected, safe and supported throughout your journey. On request, I can offer biweekly sessions depending on availability and circumstances.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

You don't need to have everything figured out to start. If you're struggling, curious about yourself, or seeking change, therapy offers a space to explore what's happening with care and without judgment.

What if person-centred therapy doesn't feel right for me?

That's genuinely okay, and worth saying out loud in a session. Different approaches suit different people, and if it isn't working for you I'd rather help you find something that does than have you stay somewhere that doesn't feel right.

The Practical Questions?

In-person sessions are held in Richmond and Clapham. I also offer online sessions (via Zoom) if you're not nearby or that suits you better.

Where are you based?

Yes — online sessions run via Zoom's encrypted service, weekly, at the same time each week, just like in person sessions.

Do you offer online as well as face-to-face?

I work from a person-centred perspective, which means I believe you are the expert on your own experience. I work alongside you with empathy, warmth and understanding as we explore your world together.

What approach do you use?

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. What you bring is confidential, with a small number of exceptions I'm required to act on, primarily where there's a risk of serious harm to you or someone else. I'll go through all of this with you together.

How do I book or get in touch?

Through the contact form, or by email at sophieredgravetherapy@gmail.com. I aim to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours, Monday to Friday.

What if I need urgent support?
